2020 Week 8 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)
Things had gotten a little more relaxed this week. For one, Pennsylvania had relaxed their stringent restrictions on attendance. Which made the old 250 limit no more. It was nice being at a game in PA with what could be called a ‘crowd’ for a game. But, with all the restrictions, I didn’t look for much of the Pennsylvania games earlier in the week. 2020 Week 7 (Pennsylvania & Ohio)
This week did not go as planned. After Pennsylvania had seen their attendance rules relaxed, a sudden reversal on Thursday afternoon reinstated the restrictions of 250 total people at the stadium. 2020 Week 5 (Pennsylvania & Ohio)
This weekend started with a lot of options. In Pennsylvania, there was only one Thursday night game on the west side of the state. Meanwhile, Ohio had a sizeable number of Thursday options. 2020 Week 4 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)
Week 4 was back home in Northeastern Ohio. And had four football games to go with it. Even prior to Covid-19, District 10 in Pennsylvania had noted that Thursday and Saturday games were going to be a reality in 2020. An aging pool of officials made the move inevitable. 2019 Week 8 (New York)
It’s already Friday, so I’ll keep this brief. Week 8 was a nice little jaunt with a friend to a Friday night in New York, and two games in PIAA District 9.
Thursday opened with a game at Western Reserve in Berlin Center, Ohio. They were hosting Waterloo, a team I had just seen the previous weekend, also on Thursday. Continue reading “2019 Week 8 (New York)”
2019 Week 7 (North Carolina & Pennsylvania)
As many of my weeks, this one didn’t go as planned. I was in North Carolina and with the weather delays, there were several Monday games. None of which I could attend on Monday. 2019 Week 3 (Pennsylvania)

2019 Week 2 (Ohio)
Week 2 opened in Ohio. With the OHSAA bumped back a week starting with this cycle, meant OHSAA Week One games were this weekend. And as with most years, a number of Thursday games in the Mahoning Valley kick off the season. Continue reading “2019 Week 2 (Ohio)”
2018 Week 10 (New York & Pennsylvania)
New York has a rather intriguing post-season structure. After a seven-game regular season, a three round playoff starts. For most classes. Class AA and D only play a two-round playoff, because of how few teams are in each. So, they get an extra regular season game. Then, those that don’t qualify can play in the “Funke Bowl”, which is a two-round playoff in each class. Again, except for Class D, since there’s only four teams.
However, teams that don’t qualify for the playoffs, or lose in the Funke Bowl, can play consolation games. Some only play one additional game. However, they can play up to three. One of those, is Springville Griffith. Who plays Tonawanda in the first post season week. And then plays East Aurora/Holland in the second week. Both games on a Wednesday. And one more week, next week, on a Tuesday at Alden. Finishing at 0-7, they’re desperate to get their first victory. Last week, losing, 14-7 to the Tonawanda Warriors.
