2020 Week 10 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

As the regular season winds to a close in a mish-mash of regular season, playoff, and consolation games, things are getting a little easier for scheduling. But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t weird things that crop up.

Then, there’s things unrelated to scheduling and travel. Such, as a brand new camera failing right before a game. But, I’ll get to that.

2020 Week 8 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

Things had gotten a little more relaxed this week. For one, Pennsylvania had relaxed their stringent restrictions on attendance. Which made the old 250 limit no more. It was nice being at a game in PA with what could be called a ‘crowd’ for a game. But, with all the restrictions, I didn’t look for much of the Pennsylvania games earlier in the week. The Pennsylvania State Championships are a fun, albeit slightly subdued affair. Unlike other states still playing this late, lack of warm weather hinders the crowds, and some of Pennsylvania’s crowds are paltry. Only 950 attended the Thursday afternoon game between 1A powers Farrell (one of the smallest public schools in the state) and Bishop Guilfoyle, a private school also from the west side of the state. 2018 Week 16 (Pennsylvania)

Once again, the season starts winding down with Pennsylvania’s PIAA Championships in Hershey. Pennsylvania is in the third year of the Six Classes experiment. The championship schedule is a much simpler two-games-a-day. Thursday and Friday hosting games at 1pm and 7pm, and Saturday starting an hour earlier. For the 21st year, the championships were held at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey. A company town just east of the state capital. 2018 Week 7 (Ohio)

For a weekend with almost all Ohio games, it started off in Pennsylvania. In Clarion County, the annual Autumn Leaf Festival always alters the schedule of at least one county school. With most of the festivities on the weekend, many schools are off. This moves a lot of the games to Thursday night.

For 2018, it was only one school that elected to play on Thursday. Keystone, in the town of Knox just west of county-seat Clarion, was hosting Union/ACV. Union and Allegheny-Clarion Valley formed a co-op a few years ago. The Falcon Knights, as they’re called, split time between both schools. Hosting games in Rimersburg and Foxburg.
